Proud Parent Moment

We went to our first scocer practice and it was so much fun! I really wondered if they can do anything with two year olds and the answer is YES!! Not only is she learning some great soccer skills, but she is really learning how to listen and follow-directions. Rob and I were in total awe as to how much she understands and what she is capable of that we didn't even know. They encourage the parents to stay to the sides so that the kids will listen to Coach Susie. It was amazing to watch all these 2 year olds do things like lining-up or doing stretching exercises.

Some of the drills were:

Chasing a rolling hula hoop and trying to catch it before it stops and falls over.

Playing Red Ball, Green Ball (same as red light green light) which helps them practice stopping and starting

Kicking the ball across the field and then into the net (the balls are fire and you can't touch them with your hands)

They set up a whole bunch of colored cones and buckets and the 2 year olds got to run around like crazy kicking cones over

She set up orange and green cones as well as red buckets. Then she would give them jobs like "bring me two large green cones" or "bring me one small orange cone" After each job they complete they got a new job.

Trapping the ball with their foot and then trapping a small plastic bucket laying on it's side with their foot and then flipping it right-side up.

On another note. I'm amazed at how many parents do not expect their kids to follow directions. Not just at soccer but we see it at music class and other places too. The instructor will say something like, "okay, I need you to wait until I count to three and then go get a ball." One or two kids go and get a ball before the coach even starts counting and the parents just let them. That's not the best example but things like that. I'm surprised that they wouldn't want them to work on following directions....especially when they are totally capable of doing so.

Happy Birthday Cady!!!

Let me first mention how much fun it is to have a little one celebrating a birthday. Something happened once I hit my 30's where my wonBirthdays just aren't as much fun to celebrate, but it sure is fun to celebrate Cady's! I can't believe she is two!! In some ways it seems like it's been a lifetime with her already and in other ways it just seems to fly by!

After work tonight, I picked up Rob and Cady and we met our friends (the parents of three of Cady's friends) at Gunther Toody's (a 50's diner) for dinner.

When her friends started showing up she was really excited!

Then they put an autographed paper hat on her head, grabbed her out of her seat, and took her to the front of the restaurant to do the twist for her birthday. Thank God Rob went up with her. I hate that kind of thing. You can see her little friends off to the side for support.

And these are pics of our dainty little flower eating a cupcake

This is post-party after getting out of the car. She is crying "No more picture Daddy!"

Oh, but despite being "done" we still had gifts to open!

My visit with Mimi

Mimi came to visit me last weekend and we had fun!! When mom and I arrived home on Friday she was at the house and I was a little shy at first. Then she gave me a present and I warmed right up. Mimi and I went outside and played with my new present (sidewalk chalk), then some bubbles, and then she and my mom and I went to the park to play. Later that evening, Lilly's mom came over for dinner. They ate while I mostly just showed off.
Saturday we went to look at some houses which was okay fun. Mimi and Lilly's mom rode with me in the back seat which made the trip tolerable. Later that day we went to see Elmo at Sesame Street Live. Mimi bought me a LOT of popcorn and I ate most of it until my mom and dad took the bucket away. Dang! I sat quietly through the whole show. I heard my mom say that Mimi and Lilly's Mom were good sports and that she wished Elmo had hurried up and figured things out a lot sooner so we could have gotten out of there. Whatever. I thought it was good.
On Sunday we went to the zoo! Lilly's mom rode with me on the Giraffers. I love Giraffers!

After the Giraffers we rode the train!

And then I had a snack in my wagon. Mimi said I looked like I was among high society and all I needed was a vase of flowers on my table to accompany my snacks. I don't get it.

After the zoo I had to go grocery shopping with my mom and dad and then Mimi and Lilly's Mom showed up in Lilly's car for dinner. I had a nice time showing off for them and then it was time for me to go to bed. Mimi said she had to leave and that I wouldn't see her for a few months. That makes me sad.

New Titles

Just call us sweetie!

Our new titles are "Sweetie Mommy" and "Sweetie Daddy". For instance, Cady was helping me cook the other night and Rob walks into the kitchen. Cady looks up and says in a very "sweet" voice, "Hi Sweetie Daddy!" It's actually quite cute to be called sweetie or honey (her other favorite) by a two year old. We can only wonder what's next.
